FMMP Steering Committee meets with 36th District Senator Jeanne Kohl-Wells about Park plans

Dogoween 2011– another happening at Magnolia Manor Park!

Even the typical northwest October weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the dozens of costumed guests and their canine companions for the 12th annual Dogoween fundraiser.  There were aliens, witches, dragons, bees, pirates, ninja turtles, and even an appearance by Hugh Hefner and one of his bunnies.  Dogoween is the annual fundraiser for Citizens for Off-Leash Areas (COLA). This year, COLA teamed up with Friends of Magnolia Manor Park to co-present the event on the future site of the next off leash area in Seattle-in Magnolia Manor Park.

Proceeds of over $2500 will go to the new Off Leash Area to be built at Magnolia Manor Park and to COLA for its work. The Magnolia OLA is in need of community funds to match the Parks levy amount of $70,000 dollars. Without that we will not get the 21,000 square foot dog park the community feels is appropriate for the Park.  You can donate today from the website (LINK TO DONATE) The OLA has a targeted date of construction – June 2012. Your help to reach our fundraising goals are critical to getting the dog park we have planned for in the Preferred Design. (LINK TO PARK DESIGN)

The wonderful John Fisher from KMTT  (The Mountain) 103.7 radio station presided over the festivities.  John regularly lends his talents to animal-related causes, and has been the MC for Dogoween many times in the past.

Judges Brandie Ahlgren of CityDog Magazine, Bryan Forbes from Mud Bay-Greenwood, former Seattle City and King County Council Member Jan Drago and Patti Howell of Magnolia’s own PJ’s Paws and Claws lent their assistance.  And they had a hard job to do!  “It’s always hard to pick a winner, but it’s always so much fun!” was their shared sentiment.

This year, the Grand Prize winners were Aliens (and their human companions) from the Planet K-9, in the Sirius system.  And they went all-out, even bringing their space ship! Other pictures of the fun and costumes at (www.dogoween.org)

COLA and FMMP, through Dogoween’s generous donors, were able to give out over $1,000 of merchandise and services to the prizewinners and contestants.

So next year, be cool, be there or be square…Dogoween 2012.  Time and place to be announced!

Toni Imfeld, Co-Chair/Fundraising FMMP and Vice Chair COLA
